Norman Smith - Head Coach Norman Smith began his wrestling career at Indian River High School where he wrestled at 130 and won a state championship. After high school graduation, Smith moved to New Jersey and wrestled at Gloucester County Community College. Smith later returned to Indian River High School to begin his wrestling coaching career. He served as the Braves’ assistant coach for three years and later the head coach for two additional years. As head coach, Smith helped to coach three state place winners.
In 2001, Smith moved to Great Bridge High School to become an assistant coach. In 2006, Smith became the head coach of the Wildcats. In his first two years as head coach, the Wildcats earned two national rankings as well as one first place and one second place finish at the Virginia State Finals. Smith has coached eight state place winners and seven state champions.
While not involved in wrestling, Smith enjoys fishing, golf, and watching a variety of professional sports on television. Norman and his wife, Stephanie, an elementary school teacher in Virginia Beach and a graduate of Great Bridge High School, reside in Chesapeake.

- First five years of high school coaching was in North Carolina
- Currituck County wrestling coach, in 4 years, placed 5th in the state and were state runner-ups for two years. Coached several state champions as well as having 5 ranked top 20 in the country along with some High School All-Americans.
- Began as an assistant at Great Bridge High School in 2004
- Great Bridge High School coaching highlight was getting seven of the this past years seniors in college: such as 3 Duquesne, one at Duke, one at Air Force, one at ODU, and one at North Iowa JUCO
